Rose Ellen Mullen

Rose Ellen Mullen (Garis), known to many as Gari, of Carlsbad, NM peacefully passed away on May 6, 2024, in Edgewood, New Mexico, at the age of 96. She was born on September 5, 1927, in Summit New Jersey. Rose Ellen loved horses and learned to ride at a young age. As a teenager she loved playing baseball and worked as a bowling pin setter at the local bowling alley.

Rose Ellen attended Cornell University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. It was at Cornell University where she met the love of her life, Earl W Mullen Jr. They were married in Summit New Jersey on September 3, 1949 and established roots in New City, New York where they built their home and raised their three children, Jon, Wendy and Terry.

Rose Ellen dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family, embodying the role of a dedicated homemaker with grace and care.  Her commitment to her family was unwavering, and her legacy of love and kindness will always be remembered.

In her leisure time, Rose Ellen found joy in painting, sewing, camping, and traveling, indulging her creative spirit and love for the great outdoors. Her passion for art and exploration enriched her life and brought happiness to those around her.

Rose Ellen is survived by her beloved children Jon (Sharon) Mullen, Terry (Barbara) Mullen, Grandchildren, Bryce (Jessica) Mullen, Camden Mullen, Kelly (Andy) Rivera, Jaclyn Glenn and Noah Mullen and Great Grandchildren Lauren Mullen, Austin Rivera and Kennedy Rivera. She was preceded in death by her parents Norman Sherwood Garis and Jessie Wells Garis, husband Earl W Mullen Jr and daughter Wendy Glenn.

Rose Ellen's memory will forever live on through her beautiful paintings which will be cherished by her family and friends as they reflect the beautiful life she lived and the love she shared with all who knew her.

A private memorial service to celebrate Rose Ellen’s life will be held in Albuquerque, NM.
