Robert Glenn
Stitt Jr.
Feb 7, 1951 — Oct 2, 2026
Robert G. Stitt Jr., affectionately known as Bob, passed away on October 2, 2026, while receiving hospice care at a Veterans Administration hospital.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, from January 1971 through January 1991. His military career spanned the Vietnam War, Cold War, and Gulf War eras. He retired honorably after two decades of dedicated service, leaving a legacy of commitment, strength, and quiet resilience.
Beyond his military service, Bob had a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors and the simple pleasures of country life. He found peace and fulfillment in horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. An avid outdoorsman, he had a particular passion and talent for raising and training bird dogs. His knowledge and expertise earned him a reputation that extended well beyond his local community, with people traveling from across the country to have him train their dogs. He also enjoyed sharing his passion for bird hunting by guiding hunts in the area. Bob was a member of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA).
Bob made his home in Moriarty, New Mexico, where he lived with his former spouse, Carolyn Allen, with whom he maintained a long-standing and supportive connection.
Bob is survived by his son, RG Stitt of Sarasota, Florida; his son, Gavin Stitt, and daughter-in-law, Jenna, of Scottsdale, Arizona; and his grandsons, Jordan and Sidney.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gareth Stitt, who passed away in 2022. Bob maintained a close and loving relationship with Gareth's wife, Joanna Stitt, and his granddaughters, Aria and Lyric.
He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Craig Wheeler, of Lewistown, Pennsylvania. Bob’s parents, Robert and Betty Stitt, and his brother, Jeffrey Stitt, from Altoona, Pennsylvania, preceded him in passing.
Bob will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his love of the outdoors, and the many experiences and memories he shared with family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when family and friends will be invited to gather, share stories, and honor Bob's life and memory.
