Obituary

In Loving Memory of Nicholas Kevin Handley

With profound sadness and immeasurable love, we announce the passing of Nicholas Kevin Handley, who left this world on August 16, 2026, at the age of 32. Nick was a gifted artist in every sense of the word. Beloved throughout the Albuquerque theater and performing arts community, he shared his talents on countless stages, captivating audiences through acting, singing, dancing, music, and cabaret performances. He enriched every production with his passion, dedication, and extraordinary spirit. Beyond the stage, Nick was an accomplished violinist and violist whose love of music was woven into every part of his life. His creativity extended to cooking, baking, spinning yarn, crocheting, painting, and a deep appreciation for nature. Trees, animals, and the changing seasons captivated his heart, and he carried a gentle reverence for nature and every living being. Ever since he was a child, Nick had a keen sense of when someone was struggling or had hit a pothole in life. He had a gift for shining light on others, like a little flashlight, helping them find their way back to their path. Nick dearly loved his big, fat Hispanic family and cherished the traditions, gatherings, and moments that brought people together. Those who knew Nick will remember his remarkable creativity, compassionate heart, and the joy he brought into every room. He leaves behind a legacy of artistry, friendship, and love that will continue to inspire others for years to come. Nick is survived by his loving mother, Cecilia Acosta Juarez, and stepfather, Edward Juarez, of Tijeras, NM; his beloved, Ryan Chavez, of Albuquerque, NM; his paternal grandmother, "Meemaw" Sharon Johnson, of Hereford, TX; his maternal aunts Diana (John), Sally (Faustino), Veronica (Robert), Sonja (Tony), Lori (Raymond), Mona, and Luisa (Jay); and uncle, Bill Acosta; his paternal aunt, Debbie Norvell, of Hereford, TX, 29 first cousins; and numerous second cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Kevin D. Handley; his maternal grandmother, Cecilia Acosta Mills; his maternal grandfather, Zaqueo N. Acosta; his paternal grandfather, Bruce "Popo" Johnson; his uncle (Godfather), James Acosta; and his uncle, Zaqueo Acosta Jr. A Vigil and Rosary will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., both at Holy Child Parish, 19 Camino de Santo Niño, Tijeras, NM 87059. A reception will follow the Mass and burial at approximately 1:00 p.m. at the Albuquerque Garden Center, 10120 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Guests are welcome to arrive early or remain afterward to enjoy the beauty of the gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Harris-Hanlon Mortuary, Moriarty, NM.
