Marie Pauline Dawes
September 18, 1935 – June 10, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that the family of Marie Pauline Dawes announces her peaceful passing on June 10, 2026, at the age of 90. Marie left this world surrounded by the warmth of her loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, friendship and love that will forever be cherished.
Born on September 18, 1935, in Miles City, Montana, Marie was the cherished daughter of William and Cecilia Isaacs. Her family moved to Albuquerque, NM when Marie was 15. She grew up in a home filled with love, alongside her siblings Angela, William, Carol and Phillip.
A proud graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic High School, Marie soon embarked on a journey of service and dedication as she joined the United States Marines. During her Marine Corps service at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, she worked in communications until a tragic accident cut her military service short.
On June 11, 1955, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marie married the love of her life, Ronald Dawes. Their marriage, which spanned an incredible 71 years, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together they built a beautiful family, raising five children: Susan, Rhonda, Linda, John & James. Although John and Rhonda have since passed, their memories remain forever cherished in the hearts of their family.
Marie’s life was one of dedication to her family and her passions. As a devoted homemaker and an avid dealer in antiques and collectibles, she shared her love for history and beauty with all who knew her. Her enthusiasm for collecting and her meticulous research into family genealogy were pursuits that brought her great joy and connected her to her past and future generations. After moving to Moriarty NM, Marie worked as a volunteer at the Bethel Community Storehouse for 20 years.
Known for her friendliness and sociable nature, Marie had the remarkable ability to strike up conversations with complete strangers, often turning them into lifelong friends. Her home was always open, and her heart even more so, as she thrived in the company of family and friends.
Marie’s rich life was adorned with the joy of nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald Dawes; her children, Susan (Rick) Ortiz, Linda (Lee) Smith, James Dawes; daughter-in-law Danell Dawes; her sister, Carol (Alan) Wilson; and her sister-in-laws, Phyllis Warner, Pat Young and Ingrid Isaacs.
A catholic mass to honor and celebrate Marie’s life will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @ 10:00 am. Located at 215 Gerard Ave, Moriarty, NM 87035. This will be followed by the internment of her cremains at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 2:00 pm with military honors. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Veteran’s Hospital Hospice Unit for their compassionate care during Marie’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marie’s memory to the Bethel Community Storehouse (P.O. Box 968, Moriarty, NM 87035) spreading kindness and love as Marie did throughout her life.
