Margaret Chavez, also known as Maggie, and Flor Margarita Chavez. She was born on September 13th, 1934 in Palma, NM and passed away on September 13, 2026, on her 92nd birthday. She was born to Antonio and Flora Chavez. She lived most of her life in Moriarty, NM. Her last 3 years of life, she resided in Mesa, AZ.

Margaret married Bernardo T. Chavez on November 16, 1953. Together they shared nearly 69 years of marriage and built a loving family filled with cherished memories. Following Bernardo’s passing on October 8, 2022, Margaret continued to be surrounded by the love of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she and Bernardo are together once again. She was also preceded in death by three other children, Bernardo Jr., Abel and Ernest Chavez.

Margaret was especially proud of her family and treasured the time they spent together. Birthdays held a special place in her heart, making it especially meaningful that she celebrated her 92nd birthday before gaining her angel wings. She always made sure to send something special for everyone’s birthday. She loved preparing her famous Chile, spaghetti, and mashed potatoes for her family. Margaret was devoted to her Catholic faith and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love will forever remain in the hearts of her family.

She is survived by her children: Albert Chavez and his wife, Debbie; Doris Chavez and her husband, Hugo J.; April Chavez and her husband, Adrian Sr; and Robert Chavez and his wife, Eve.

Her grandchildren are Jesse Chavez and his wife, Laurie; Martin Chavez and his wife, Alicia; Daniel Jaramillo; David Jaramillo and his wife Raquel; Victoria Schwerdel and her husband, Alex; Adrian Chavez Jr. and his wife, Brittany; Adriana Doyle and her husband, Kevin; Alyssa Gifford and her husband, Thomas; Valerie Torrez Anthony Chavez; and Addison Chavez.

Her great-grandchildren are Olivia Chavez, Alexis Chavez, Ezekial Chavez, Amelia Chavez, Vanessa Chavez, Nolan Schwerdel, Julia Schwerdel, Liam Jaramillo, Mathew Jaramillo, Callie Jaramillo, Elijah Jaramillo, Aliyah Jaramillo, Jack Chavez, Mackenzie Chavez, Everlyn Doyle, Eliana Doyle, Eagan Doyle, Caden Gifford and Liam Gifford.

Margaret also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly and forever cherish her memory.

** Red was Margaret’s favorite color, and the family warmly invites those attending her services to wear red in her honor. **

Services will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on September 25, 2026. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Rosary at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11:00 a.m. With a Burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Moriarty NM. Reception / Food will be to follow at the Mount Carmel Hall in Moriarty. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary.
