Lonnie Wyatt Greene (51), a longtime resident of Mountainair, since 1986, passed away unexpectedly on September 10, 2026.

He had a kind and gentle soul. Everyone who knew him well knew he would jump through fire to help if needed at the drop of a hat, no matter what time of day it was, it did not matter if he hadn’t seen or spoken to someone in forever—he was still there.

He would give the shirt off his back if needed. Which he has literally done. Always ready to help anyone in need.

He loved rodeoing, riding horses and hunting with his boys and taught them the meaning of hard work. At times, they thought he was too hard on them, but now they understand why. They are better men because of it.

Lonnie was one of the hardest workers around. He took pride in all he did. He was a longtime rancher, which started off with his first cow, which his Grandma Mayme Lee bought him as a kid. Ranching was his passion, along with fence building, driving a school bus for many years, and driving a fire bus, transporting forest firefighter crews.

He was the most giving person, especially with kids. He always jumped at the chance to help with the Mountainair FFA to fundraise and keeping the Mountainair Gymkhana Rodeo going for many years.

He was known as Uncle Lonnie to many. He loved so many as his nieces and nephews. Most recently, his little pals, Corinne (Sissy) Padilla and Cohen (Coco) Padilla. He was known as “Quannie” (Uncle Lonnie) to them.

He was excited to meet his first grandchild, Baby Dawson, due in October. Dawson will know his Grandpa Lonnie through the stories he is told.

He loved his boys and was so proud of them and all their accomplishments. He was proud to say they were all the Pistol Pete mascot for NMSU.

He fought his demons and won. He was right with our Lord, fighting and trusting in Him and all His glory. His favorite scriptures were : I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:1) and Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10)

We will miss his smile and presence, but his legacy will carry on in his boys and their families. Thank you to everyone who made a lasting impact on him. He loved so many people as family.

Lonnie is Survived by his loving wife Sonya (Lueras) Greene of 29 years, together for 32 years, his sons Wyatt Greene (Gia), unborn grandson Dawson Greene, Dylan Greene, Morgan Greene (Cassandra), father and mother Jim and Dorothy Greene, brothers Travis (Yolanda) Greene, Jim L (Dana) Greene, mother and father in law Patsy & Henry Luna, nieces & nephews Kayzen & Westyen Greene, Santiago, Nicholas & Ava Lueras, Sebastian (Jayden)Jiron, Jonah Jiron, Jada, Ines, & Jonah Lueras, Jenna Cody, Kaison & Kenzlee Luna, Stefanie and Colton Greene and Anthony Padilla. His brothers in law David (Michelle) Lueras, Carlos Lueras and Justin (Cheryl) Luna, numerous aunts, uncles & cousins, and many many friends.
