In Loving Memory of Kennard Edwin “Buddy” Hibler

Kennard Edwin Hibler, known to everyone as "Buddy," took his place with the Lord on March 22, 2026. A man of unwavering humor, immense dedication to his family, and deep faith in God, Buddy leaves behind a legacy of love that spans generations.

Early Life and Service

Buddy was born in Austin, Texas, to Mason “Pete” and Gladys Hibler. He spent his early years growing up in Bertram, Texas, before his family relocated to Mountainair, New Mexico, where his parents opened a restaurant. Buddy graduated from Mountainair High School, and the family later moved to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. It was there that Buddy began his journey of service to his beloved country. He proudly joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War and served with honor until his honorable discharge in 1954.

A Lifetime of Devotion

It was also in Truth or Consequences that Buddy met the absolute love of his life and soulmate, Kay Mitchell. Their bond was unbreakable, and together they shared 70 beautiful years of marriage—a milestone that served as an inspiration to everyone who knew them.

The couple eventually settled in Moriarty, New Mexico, where Buddy spent 32 years as a dedicated employee of the Central New Mexico Electric Co-op. He worked his way up to manager before his retirement and remained a fixture in the community, sharing his knowledge and passion for the game as a baseball coach.

Passions and Legacy

Buddy truly embraced the great outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, or spending time on his boats and in his RVs, he found peace in nature. He was a talented carpenter with a lifelong love for cars and trucks, and he was well-known for keeping his vehicles immaculate. He could often be found thumbing through old Auto Trader magazines or watching his favorite football and basketball teams while hanging out with his dogs that he loved dearly.

Above all, Buddy was a devoted father and a legendary grandfather. His quick wit and unique sense of humor were his trademarks, bringing smiles to his family, friends, and even strangers in the grocery store.

Family

Buddy is survived by his beloved wife, Kay Hibler, and his sister, Joyce Burnette. He was a devoted father to his children: Debra Hibler, David (Georgie) Hibler, and Becky Hibler. He remains a hero to his 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, all of whom will proudly carry his stories and his spirit forward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mason “Pete” and Gladys Hibler; his brother, Dr. Charles “Chuck” Hibler; one baby grandchild; and four baby great-grandchildren.

Buddy was an amazing man to his family, his friends, and the community he served. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in every cast of a fishing line, every sturdy electric pole, and every home he helped power in Central New Mexico.
