Josephine Lena Otting, 93, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, in Portland, Texas, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.
Born on May 23, 1932, in Clayton, New Mexico, to Jacob and Stephanie Padilla, Josephine was the definition of strength, devotion, and unconditional love. As a military wife, she carried the weight of home and family while her husband, Ralph James Otting, served our country—doing so with quiet resilience, grace, and determination. She made sure everything was taken care of, always putting her family first.
Josephine found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved crocheting, playing cards, and was always ready for a good game of BINGO. She was famous for throwing unforgettable family reunions, bringing generations together with laughter, food, and love. Above all else, Josephine absolutely adored her family. Being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother was the greatest joy of her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph James Otting; her children Deborah Jean Otting-Marshall, William Randy Otting, and Cynthia Otting-Dickson; her parents Jacob and Stephanie Padilla; and her sisters Rachel Scherbenski, Alice Carrera, Dominga Dominguez, and Florence Mares. Though she endured great loss, her love for her family never wavered and remained her guiding light.
Josephine leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her grandchildren Heather Konoval, Scott Albritton, Lindsay Marshall, Ryan Otting, and Katie Otting; her great-grandchildren Christian Konoval, Gabriella Konoval, Lilliana Konoval, Brayden Konoval, Josh Albritton, and Oliver Sullivan; and her cherished great-great-granddaughter Esmeray Pace, all of whom were blessed by her love, wisdom, and unwavering support.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Josephine will be remembered as the heart of her family—a woman whose love held everyone together and whose spirit will live on in every life she touched.
