Edith Eleanor Purevich, 92 a Longtime resident of Moriarty, NM, Formerly of Missouri, passed away April 14, 2026 at her home in Moriarty, NM. Edith was born November 13, 1933 to Milford Eugene & Edna Elsie (Phophet) Orner in Norwood, MO.
After completing High School Edith went to college and earned her RN degree. In the summer she traveled a lot while working on her degree. She worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital & Research Medical Center in Kansas City. MO for approximately 18 years. Edith had a passion for reading books of any kind. Tree’s, flowers, birds, mountains, rock & fossil hunting. Most of Edith’s life she wanted to live in New Mexico, she made numerous trips throughout her life, and she finally made That dream happen when she turned 60 yrs old. In 1993 She Rented a U-Haul drove from Missouri to New Mexico where her cousin Lola Kay lives, she located property out of Moriarty, and using her years of extensive research for living off the grid. She proceeded to build her own small trailer with the assistance of her son Kenneth Purevich. Edith was a trooper through cold winters, hot summers, and rattlesnakes. But loved every minute of it and the people in Moriarty, New Mexico. Edith was also proud member of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.
She is preceded in death both parents. Edith is survived by three sons; Walter Charles Purevich and his wife Ponswan of Wichita Falls, TX, David Wayne Purevich of Moriarty, NM and Kenneth Andrew Purevich of KS; one daughter Melinda Eleanor Dillard of Clearwater, FL; one sister, Kay McCracken. Nine grandchildren and sixteen greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Eastern Shawnee Tribe traditions on June 4th, 2026 @ 6:00 am breakfast to June 7th, 2026 By noon Burial, all at the Martin Ranch 201 Martin Road South Moriarty, NM 87035.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, NM.
