Charlene Lella Norris Scott

December 16, 1927 — September 21, 2025

Sierrra Vista Arizona

Charlene Lella Norris Scott, age 97, passed away on September 21, 2025 in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Charlene was born to Charles Lambert Norris and Ethel Ina Waldrip Norris on December 16, 1927 in Mountainair, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings; her husband of 74 years, Edgar Roy Scott; her son, Calvin Lee Scott; her grandson, Robert Lee Scott; and two great-grandsons, Ryan Wesley Ott and Dominic Aaron Ott. She is survived by her daughter, Edene Lynell Scott (Thomas Moxley); 2 grand-daughters; 13 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Most important event of her life was when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in a Nazarene church when she was twelve years old.

Like many of her paternal relatives, she was musically inclined. She played the clarinet in her school hood years and later on, piano. Her first piano was found in an abandoned country church, covered in dust complete with pack rat treasures inside the case. It was lovingly restored and cherished as her most sentimental possession. Years later she would gift it to her home church in Estancia, New Mexico where she was a founding member and pianist for over 55 years. She was especially fond of gospel quartets and classical music.

Her signature recipes were kept in her head, homemade noodles in rich chicken broth and warm apricot fried pies were near impossible to duplicate. After decades of prompting by family members, she put pen to paper for the fried pie recipe.

Charlene and Edgar were antique collectors. She had a special fondness for antique dishes and the glass-front cabinets to display them in. Edgar used to say to her, “You could have married a man with more money and you could have married a better-looking man, but you never could have married a man who’d buy you more dishes than I have”!

After Edgar’s death in 2018 she moved to Arizona to reside with family. She adjusted well to her new home state and divided her time between her children’s homes in Douglas and Sierra Vista before moving into assisted living facilities.

A woman of quiet strength, her sweet and sassy character was evident to those who cared for her. Special appreciation to Haven Health of Douglas and Via Elegante Assisted Living in Sierra Vista who considered her their favorite. In the final months of her lengthy journey home, Casa de la Paz Hospice and friends from her church provided amazing kindness and support.

She was privately interred in a family plot purchased by her father in 1935, in Round Top Cemetery in the ranch country near her birthplace.

“My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever”. Psalm 73:26 (NLT)
