                                                 Candido ‘Cande’ Lucero June 30, 1944 – July 19, 2025

Surrounded by his loving family, Candido “Cande” Lucero passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in the comfort of his home in La Zorra, New Mexico.

Born to Charlie and Margarita Lucero, Candido lived a life rich in faith, service, and deep connection to his community. Known for his larger-than-life personality, infectious laughter, and captivating storytelling, he brought joy to everyone around him.

A lifelong Estancia Bear, Candido was the unmistakable voice of Bears football for over 40 years—his signature announcing style becoming a cherished part of local tradition. His dedication extended beyond the field; he was a devoted member of the Estancia Valley Catholic Parish, where he served as a mayordomo, pilgrimage participant, and leader of marriage enrichment retreats.

Candido exemplified a strong work ethic throughout his life. He retired from Torrance County Road Dept. as a Grader operator and found great satisfaction in driving charter buses and semis. He was also a proud member of the Chilili Rodeo Club for nearly four decades, forming lasting friendships through their shared love of tradition and community.

On September 19, 1964, he married the love of his life, Aurelia Eufemia Lucero. Together they built a beautiful life and raised four loving children: Wayne (Mari), Wanda (Randy), Warren (Michelle), and Waynette (Terry).

Candido’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren—Dennis (Jennifer), Desiree (Mike), Gabriel, Rochelle, Alisa, Xavier (Ashley), Mary (Taven), Michael (Jitlada), Martina, Alexis, and Maricella—and his great-grandchildren: Delilah, Iliano, Serenity, Genesis, Joshua, and Zayden. His deep love for family and steadfast faith served as an inspiration to all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parent’s Charlie & Margarita Lucero and siblings, Josie, Betty, and Andy and survived by Gilbert, Sarah, MaryAlice, Eddie and Juan.

Pallbearers will be Candido’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with honorary pallbearers from the Chilili Rodeo Club.

The Lucero family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Lily Care for their support during his final days.

Services will be held at San Antonio Catholic Church in Tajique, NM on Friday, July 25, 2025, beginning at 9:00 AM with the recitation of the rosary, followed by the funeral mass. The family will be present before the services. The burial will be held at Lucero Family Cemetery and reception to follow at La Sala, Chilili NM.
