Leandro A. Marez

Leandro A. Marez, 73, passed away on October 13, 2017. He was born on January 31, 1944 in Derramadero, New Mexico to the late Alejandro and Isabel (Montano) Marez. Leandro was very active in his community. He was a Grand Knight while he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Volunteer Fire Department, Moriarty Pinto’s Booster Club, Estancia Bear’s Booster Club and ran the football chains for over 30 years at the Moriarty High School football games. He will be most remembered for his unceasing service as a barber to the community for over 55 years. He took great pride in his work and met & bonded with hundreds of people with whom he formed lasting friendships. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is also preceded in death by his sister in law, Josie Marez. Leandro is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Viola Larranaga Marez of Moriarty, NM; sons, Gregory L. Marez and wife Paula of Ensenada, NM and Jerome A. Marez and wife Cassandra of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Brenda J. Tapia and husband Art of Moriarty, NM; brothers, Jose A. Marez, Frank Marez and wife Viola, Richard Marez and wife Eloisa, Joe B. Marez and wife Esther, Clario Marez and wife Norma and Robert Marez and significant other Rosella Lopez; sister, Roberta Marez and significant other Adam Gonzales; grandchildren, Lawrence Tapia, Desirae Tapia, Ezekiel Tapia, Sophia Marez, Samuel Marez, Isabel Marez, Xavier Marez, Isaac Marez, Mikaela Marez and Ambrose Marez; brothers and sisters-in-law from the Larranaga Family and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. and the Celebration of Mass will be on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Robert Lancaster will Officiate. Pallbearers are Jose A. Marez, Frank Marez, Clario Marez, Bobby Marez, Lawrence Tapia & Ezekiel Tapia. Honorary Pallbearers: Art Tapia, Xavier Marez, Isaac Marez, Samuel Marez, Ambrose Marez, Adrian Marez, Mary Jo Andrade, Francine Thompson, Richard Marez, Joe B. Marez, and Roberta “Georgia” Marez. Interment will be at the Larranaga Ranch Cemetery in En, New Mexico.
